From a lumpy Desktop-Replacement to an Ultra-Portable, we see a great deal of evolutional changes on laptops, on both sides of the mobile computing technology and designing. As you may notice, however, people now require more from a laptop, in a very unconventional way. Normally speaking, a laptop is a tool that we use for either working or entertaining, so it has to be as powerful as needed, capable of doing tasks such as document processing, multimedia content creation, or even fit in multitasking situation which only a desktop could take over (Fortunately, today’s advanced mobile computing technology like Intel Centrino enables laptops the performance that even some desktops are eager for). But some people don’t think so. They consider a portable computing device as a “toy” which has to be small and fashionable as possible. Kick-ass performance is not on their list ‘cause they only do some simple things on the little “toy” such as web surfing, video playback or some fundamental gaming. In other word, they prefer to compromise on performance for a much more portable shape, much more portable than most of the portable laptops. And that explains all why Low-cost Laptops show up.

Low-cost laptops are affordable to most of the consumers because they don’t support the latest mobile computing technology such as Centrino or AMD TurionX2 processors. But they are small and light and good looking, and that’s the point. The components they’re using may be “dated” comparing with the on-sale laptops, but they’re more than enough for simple tasks a dedicated user may want. In the following paragraphs, we are going to talk about some details you may be interested in, including how exactly a low-cost laptop performs in benchmarks.
